NAB National Small Business Summit reaches milestone
The 2012 Summit is the 10th annual business to business and business to government event. Ken Phillips, Chairman of the Council of Small Business of Australia, the convener of the event, is particularly proud that the Summit continues to be an important feature on the small business event calendar.
“Since COSBOA was launched in 1979, and the introduction of the annual Summit in 2003, the interest by government and big business in this vibrant and growing sector continues” said Phillips.
“This will be a particularly important year as it marks the first time in the history of our Parliament that we have had a Federal Small Business Minister in Cabinet”.
The NAB National Small Business Summit is for those in – and those interested in – small business.
In this its 10th year the program will address the micro issues of small business; the information and education that small business operators need to ensure that they are up to date with best practice in financial management, marketing, and online opportunities; and the macro issues of the sector – regulations in taxation and superannuation, the urgent call to reduce red tape for small business, and the plans and role of the forthcoming Federal Small Business Commissioner.
As a sign of the strength of the sector this year’s event has been particularly well supported by sponsors.
“The event is for small business and all about small business – but it can only be put together because of the support of our corporate and government sponsors – in particular NAB who play a major role in ensuring that the event can go ahead”, said Phillips.
"Once again we're pleased to be supporting COSBOA in what is one of the key forums for the small business community in 2012” said Joseph Healy, Group Executive, Business Banking, NAB
“As the engine room of our economy small businesses are great generators of activity and employment and are critical to the success of Australia’s economy.
"It is imperative that we listen to the voice of SMEs to ensure we are putting in place the right frameworks and structures – to encourage entrepreneurship and make it easier for SMEs to focus on what they are in business to do".
The event is being held in Melbourne as the first event of the Victorian Small Business Festival on August 1 and 2. It is sponsored by NAB, the Victorian Government, Smart Company, Telstra Australian Business Awards, the Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education, EFTPOS, Australian Competition & Consumer Commission, AusIndustry and Job Access.
